Today's event happened 238 years ago.
On September 5, 1774,
the first session of the Continental Congress was held. The Continental
Congress was a group of 56 representatives from all the 13 colonies (except
Georgia) and they met to discuss pulling away from British rule. This was one of the first major events
leading to the American Revolution.
We will be learning more about this in Social Studies this year as we study the United States Government and the American Revolution.
